It has been too long since my last blog post. I miss sharing with all of you. I have been very busy and that is what I want to talk about today.
"Busy"!! It is an excuse we all use. Often times we allow "busy" to get in the way of our time with God. It is very easy to do and easy to convince yourself as well. But what it really boils down to, is priorities. We have to make God our priority. I promise you, if you do this, your "busy" life will be so much easier to handle. You may ask yourself, when can I fit in time to pray and read the word? Or you may convince yourself that praying on the way to work in the car is good enough. (by all means, do this as needed and if you are now, don't stop) Or you may decide that the 1-2 minute devotional you read as you brush your teeth is feeding your soul enough for the day. Trust me, I was there, I get it.
I have to tell you though, ever since I started making morning Coffee Dates with God, my stress level has gone down, my attitude has gone up and my days have been brighter. You heard me right, I make a date with God. Each morning I get the coffee going, I sit in my "woman cave" and I start with prayer time. I talk to God about everything I am thankful for, I ask him to fill my needs and I pray for my desires. When I have finished my conversation with God, sometimes I take a moment and wait for answers and sometimes, I just go to His word. I spend time in the scriptures. I am currently reading through the Bible chronologically. I don't always get all the reading in every day, but I am working my way through. Then I also read chapters on my current study (right now that is the book of Acts) and then usually a couple of short devotionals. I can do this normally in about 1/2 hour in the morning. All the while I am enjoying my Guatemalan Coffee with my Sugar Free Italian Sweet Cream.
Now while I am driving to work, I put on some powerful praise and worship music and I sing it out. I am truly a joyful noise unto the Lord (I hope you never have to actually hear my singing voice). But for our Lord and Savior I will lift my voice and belt it out and mean it. Also, a good friend recently made an observation about a worship song that I just loved. She said she liked a song because it was singing to Jesus not just about Jesus. That really struck a cord with me. So now I try to make my personal praise and worship songs to the the Lord, not just singing about Him.
So get your coffee or juice or tea or water or whatever you need in the mornings or afternoons or evenings, it doesn't matter. But make a Date with God. Set it up regularly and make Him your priority. I promise you, all other matters in your life will become so much more manageable and easy to handle. Will all your problems disappear? No! But you will have the best councelor to rely on while you walk through your troubles.
Father, Brother, Friend
I rely on You now
And to the very End
The Holy Spirit lives in me
You saved my very life
I was blind, but now I see
Jesus Christ gets all the Glory
Because the change in me
Is such an amazing story.
In Christ Always,
Pastor Deb Tangen
